Creek Song (ruminations on my Father’s Playground, 08/2018)

g3 copy.jpg
Creek song,
Yellow stone waters gurgle softly,
Pale wildflowers full with nectar,
Fuzzy bumbles drunk on sunshine.
Bighorns traverse the slickrock above
Adjacent the pines and cottonwood.
Turkey vultures sit in council on the
Lightning struck tree level with
The Cretaceous line
9,100 feet.
Henry’s Fork River,
Lone Tree on the Laramie Range, Dutch John,
Sheep Creek, Burntfork.
Wide open spaces of sage and sandstone,
Remnants of the West,
A last frontier of imagination and emptiness.
